A few of my favorite things:
History.
International relations.
Teaching.
Watching kids "get it."
LEGO. (who can resist?)
My name is Jeremy Croft and I'm on a journey to challenge myself and impact the world. It all started in the deserts of Tucson, Arizona in the mid-eighties, which explains why I've always enjoyed a warm, sunny day. I love good books as well; what began with "Green Eggs and Ham" by Dr. Seuss has now become a steady hobby; my latest conquest is "World Order" by Henry Kissinger. As a kid I could never focus on my actual assigned homework because I was always reading ahead, especially in my history textbook. My mother always told me I'd grow up to be a history teacher, and (surprise!) she was right.
My journey of challenge has taken me around the world. As an active-duty U.S. Marine Corps officer for four years, I lived in Japan and traveled to Australia, Korea, and Singapore in the course of my duties. As a public affairs officer, my job was to inform the public of the Marine Corps' policies and activities. This was quite simply the most rewarding experience of my life. I continue to be profoundly grateful for the breadth of personalities who became my colleagues and friends; and the depth of knowledge I gained relating to multiculturalism, civics, and international affairs.
At the conclusion of my active-duty tour I decided to begin a new life in San Diego, fulfilling my dream of teaching what I had learned to others. I remain a Marine Corps officer, now serving in the reserves. I am currently enrolled in the Master's Credential Cohort at the University of San Diego, studying not only history but pedagogy, the psychology of learning, literacy, curriculum design, and a host of other engaging topics.
I am truly excited to be on this journey; every day I wake up with the knowledge that I am doing what I love and that I am making a difference in the lives of young people. My ambition is for them: that they might become effective global citizens with inquisitive minds and unflinching morals. That they would know where they come from and thus where they are going. That they might know this country as I know it: a place with a flawed and complicated history but one which I am proud to serve and whose people I love as my sisters and brothers.
This is my dream; please join me as we shape the future together.
